| At mary linsmeier schools and Children's Edu-Care your child
will experience individualized and hands on lessons in math and reading
every day. Teachers begin by determining each child's math and reading
level. Materials are then introduced which are appropriate for your child's
abilities, because children can only learn when they are developmentally
ready. This program gives the young child exposure to the concepts of
math and reading in varied ways so when the child is developmentally ready,
all the resources will be there for him/her.
math at mary linsmeier schools
Our math program starts with the simplest of concepts
and children move through each level at their own pace. Mathematics begins
in its simplest form, learning to understand numbers through sight, sound
and tactile learning methods. Almost anything children can count, sort
or sequence may become part of a math lesson. Children play number games
with the teacher and their peers which makes learning both fun and interesting.
reading at mary linsmeier schools
Children are first exposed to the alphabet by looking
at three letters each week. Children trace the tactile letters with their
finger in the manner in which it is written and repeat the sound of the
letter as the teacher has presented it. The "name" of the letter
may also be presented. Our teachers are trained to recognize cues from
the child to determine if a child is picking up reading phonetically.
Children will then begin reading through simple “pre-stories”
developed specifically for their skill level. Reading is supplemented
by stories, word games, labeling of common objects, and simple writing
exercises.
